Study Abroad Opportunities

Students are encouraged to participate in study abroad programs organized by the University of Toronto. These opportunities allow you to experience new cultures and languages in an academic setting while earning credits towards your U of T degree. Visit the Learning Abroad Portal to discover programs in Italy. Below are two programs that include courses taught by faculty associated with the Department of Italian Studies.

Siena

The University of Toronto's Summer Abroad in Siena was established in 1972 in co-operation with the University of Siena, which agreed to host a summer program of Italian and Fine Art Studies. It is the University's first Summer Abroad program, and was the model for our other programs abroad. Responsibility for the Siena program became part of the mandate of Woodsworth College when the college was founded in 1974. Since its inception, over 5300 students from across Canada have completed a University of Toronto summer course in Siena. The praise for the program has been consistently and overwhelmingly enthusiastic.

Florence

The Department of Language Studies offers the Study in Florence Program as a unique experience that allows you to be a student in Florence, Italy while simultaneously obtaining up to 2.0 University of Toronto credits. Taught in tandem by University of Toronto professors and their experienced colleagues from the Accademia Fiorentina di Lingua e Cultura Italiana, it combines the academic integrity and quality of the University of Toronto education with the power of complete immersion in Italian.
