Biography : 

Beatrice Bruno is a PhD Candidate in Italian Studies at the University of Toronto. She received her BA (2021) and MA (2023) in Italian Literature from the University of Turin, where she completed her degree with a dissertation entitled Non mi aspettavo di trovarti narratore. Sciascia, Einaudi e la nascita di uno scrittore Italiano. She is currently engaged in research with the "Sciascia Archive Project" at the University of Toronto, coordinated by Prof. Eloisa Morra. Her research interests include twentieth-century Italian literature, with a focus on the history of publishing, literary magazines, and journals. Her doctoral dissertation examines Leonardo Sciascia as a cultural organizer and editorial figure between the 1950s and 1970s, exploring his role within Italian publishing networks and his contribution to postwar literary culture. She currently serves as Course Instructor for ITAY100 in the Italian Studies program and has delivered several guest lectures on the history of Leonardo Sciascia’s books, focusing in particular on the editorial process of Gli zii di Sicilia and Il giorno della civetta (including its American translations), the public and political impact of L’affaire Moro, and the reception abroad of Una storia semplice. Her awards and honors include the Connaught International Scholarship.
